Proof of life: Spent the weekend at a wedding in Queenstown, New Zealand, where it was very cold & beautiful.
Apparently May 8th is International Viking day?
To celebrate, here’s a a handful of beautiful inked Spider King panels by simonedarmini. (Which you can pre-order right HERE.)
I swear, Simone is doing such an incredible job on this book. Every page he’s drawn so far has been amazing. I cannot wait to start posting coloured previews.
Flashback Friday - Fair Weather Friends
In 2009 I designed a series of limited edition T-Shirts which I sold in Boutiques, art galleries and online. While the Fair Weather Friends brand didn’t really take off in the way that I’d hoped, these designs are still some of my favourite creative work I’ve done to date.
Inking a page from #thespiderking by Josh Vann and myself. You can pre-order it here:
Things are starting to get real. More updates on the way soon.
Simone and I would just like to take a moment to say a deep and heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who pledged towards The Spider King Kickstarter campaign. Without you, this book wouldn’t be possible, and we are honoured that you’ve placed your trust in us and our little project about Vikings fighting Aliens.
The support and encouragement that we’ve received over the last 30 days has been phenomenal, and unexpected. Before we launched we had no idea what the reception would be like, and you’ve blown us away with your enthusiasm. The fact that we’re already getting fan art for a book that doesn’t even exist yet is mind boggling. I hope we can create something that lives up to your expectations and delivers on the promises we’ve made.
Simone and I would like to thank all of the amazing artists who have contributed tributes over the last month, and really helped us to create a visual and exciting marketing campaign. We’d also like to thank all the Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr users who tweeted, shared and blogged about The Spider King.
There will be a special section in the book where we thank EVERYONE who’s contributed and helped us out, but that list is way too long for any one email update. Instead I’m just going to say:
"Thank YOU. YOU know who YOU are. YOU are an amazing human being, and a credit to your species."
We’ll hopefully have more exciting news to tell you in the coming weeks and months, and we’ll keep you up to date on the development of the book as we go.
Now I guess we just have to make it?
Thank you again.
Team! We’ve hit $25,000 on the kickstarter campaign! Which means that stretch goal 1 is unlocked, and the book will now be extended to 80 pages!
Every dollar over will be invested into making the book longer and meaner and bigger and badder.
There’s 3 hours left so if you’re planning to pledge NOW IS THE TIME!
The Spider King kickstarter is in its last 48 hours. GET SOME.
I thought I’d get the word out with this drawing of Sigrid (one of the characters from the Spider King comic) based on designs by the talented and handsome Simone D’Armini.
Simone and Josh are doing really great work. Treat yourself to their talents.
And if you haven’t read Necropolis by fast rising star Jake Wyatt you shoud get on that RIGHT NOW. You won’t be disappointed.
HOLY CRAP! WE DID IT!
We want to send out a huge Thank you to everyone who’s pledged and helped us spread the word about this crazy book. We couldn’t have gotten this far without you guys, and the unbelievable support we’ve been getting from Twitter and Facebook.
Reaching this milestone early is great because it means we still have 70 hours left to campaign, and raise extra funds that will make the book better. Which means it’s time to talk about STRETCH GOALS!
For anyone who’s new to Kickstarter, a stretch goal is: "a funding target set by the project creator beyond the original Kickstarter goal. Stretch goals as a term and a practice emerged from the Kickstarter community as a way for creators to "stretch" beyond the initial, official goal of the Kickstarter project and raise more money (and often make cooler stuff!)."
Our stretch goals are simple. We want to add pages to the book. We want to make it longer so we can cram more amazing stuff into it, and tell the most thorough and exciting story possible.
Every cent we raise now will go towards increasing the length of the book.
• If we can reach $25,000, we’ll extend the first volume to 80 pages
• If we can reach $30,000, we’ll extend the first volume to 100 pages
It would take a massive last minute effort to reach $30,000 so, if we do, we’ll throw in a pair of limited edition, kickstarter exclusive, pewter Laxdale Clan & Spider King pinswith every pledge over $25.
We’ll post more details on our Kickstarter page over the next few days, and send out sporadic updates to let you know how the campaign is going.
Don’t forget to keep checking the Spider King Facebook Page, because we’ve got some great last minute tributes by amazing artists coming up.
Thank you again for having faith in us and this project. We won’t let you down.
"A story that’ll sound familiar to many: Side projects are costly addictions to designers. Is crowdfunding the answer?"
I wrote a thing about Crowd funding for Desktop Magazine.
The Spider King Kickstarter is the home stretch now!
We’ve got just 10 days left to raise another $5,000! which is achievable, but we’ve still got a long way to go.
Please continue to spread the word, so we can make this insane book about Vikings fighting Aliens a reality!
You can support the project by reblogging anything from thespiderking-comic.com or facebook.com/thespiderkingcomic
Thanks again for your support!
